You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

Reading Jen Sincero’s books is like receiving advice from a really cool, funny, and honest friend. She is not the kind of friend who would blow smoke up your ass to make you (or herself) feel better.

I literally laughed out loud multiple times while reading this book. How often do you actually laugh out loud while reading a book? I even laughed while reading the Resources section she includes at the back of the book. When’s the last time you even cracked a smile while reading the Resources section of any book? You probably don’t read the Resources section because you’re not as big of a nerd as I am, right?

If you’re repelled by woo-woo, then this book isn’t for you. Sincero touches on concepts related to the law of attraction – how everything you desire already exists, that you attract what you focus your thoughts on (so, by golly, be mindful of your thoughts!), that in order to live the life of our dreams we need to raise our frequency levels, etc.

My favourite chapter was chapter 21 – Millions of Mirrors, where Sincero reminds us how our relationships reflect back to us what we think and believe about ourselves.

BOOK COVER TANGENT

The yellow book cover is definitely eye-catching. I remember catching sight of it whenever I went to the bookstore, but it didn’t interest me because of the title – specifically the “BADA**” part. This is not a word that’s a part of my everyday vocabulary. I do not call other people badasses and I certainly do not describe myself as a badass. So, I didn’t think I was the ideal reader for this book. Plus, it seemed like a marketing ploy, like the publisher was trying too hard to seem cool. Talk about making assumptions!

So why did I end up reading the book after all? Well, I read You Are a Badass at Making Money, which I really enjoyed. In fact, it was one of my favourite reads of 2020. Reading that book dissolved my assumptions about what the badass books were about. Who knew that a book with the word “badass” in it would be so woo-woo? And let me tell you – I Love woo-woo! Woohoo to woo-woo!

Although I didn’t enjoy You Are a Badass as much as I enjoyed You Are a Badass at Making Money, it is still a good read for anyone who is into the law of attraction, is on a self love journey, and has a sense of humour.

Having read  two Sincero books so far, I realize now that using “badass” in the title of her books is actually genuine and representative of who she is as a person.

The best thing about Sincero’s books is Sincero. Her personality shines through in her writing. She writes the way she talks – I’ve watched interviews of her, plus she has a YouTube channel. She is a cool person. Okay, I’ll say it: Jen Sincero is a badass!
